I usually run within two circles in Jacksonville, one is of course the cycling community and the other is the arts. Lucky, there is a lot of spill over within both groups. Unluckily, Jacksonville places about as little importance on arts and culture as it does on bicycling infrastructure. One of the very few bright stars in the Jacksonville skyline for the last 9 years is the Jacksonville Film Festival (JFF).
As an Urban Core event, Bike Jax has teamed up JFF to offer free bike valet parking at the 3 main JFF film Venues, San Marco Theater, Florida Theater and 5 Points Theater. We have 60 hours of volunteer time to fill during those films and are in desperate need of you to give a us hand beginning this Thursday Oct. 13th and thru Sunday Oct. 16th.
You get something out of it also. Not only will you be helping to promote bicycles as transportation, for every 3 hour shift volunteers get admission to a screening or workshop of their choice. For 12 hours of volunteer service you get an All Access Pass which get you into everything the festival offers, Screening, Workshops and Parties.
The festival staff is also in dire need of volunteers also. Why not give us two 3 hours shifts and the JFF two 3 hours shifts and get yourself an all access pass to one of the best events in this city.
If you're not inclined to volunteer, please make plans to come out and support this very important event. We encourage all of you to bike to the venues and park with us. The Bike valet will offer the same quality at the film venues that you have come to expect from us at the Riverside Arts Market. For every bike parked you will receive a free pint of beer compliments of Intuition Ale Works or free Ice Cream from Florida Creamery in Avondale.
We need volunteers for the following days, locations and times: Shifts are broken into 3 hours blocks.
Thursday Oct. 13th:
San Marco Theater: 3pm to 10pm
Friday Oct. 14th:
5 Points Theater: 9am to 2am (☜not a typo)
Saturday Oct. 15th:
Here's where it gets tricky: 3 venues total
Riverside Arts Market: 9am to 5pm
San Marco Theater: 9am to 2pm
Florida Theater: 12pm to 11pm
Sunday Oct. 16th:
5 Points Theater: 9am to 7pm
