Sharrows on Riverside Ave. Going Down

A couple of days ago I posted about Sharrows being placed along Riverside Ave. Today FDOT laid down the east bound lane and I'm assuming tomorrow the west bound will go down. Thanks to Bike Jax Board Member Abhishek for grabbing a few pictures.

Judging by how the Sharrows seem to be all over the place, it appears that FDOT (like the COJ did with the Lorretto Rd.) road crews kept to the "lanes without parking, 4 foot from curb face" guidelines suggested by the MUTCD.

I do love how the FDOT did use the Bikes My Use Full Lane signs. That is all the education a driver or cyclist that is unaware of what these new markings indicate will need.

nice, now when I decided to venture across the bridge and down riverside, I won't feel like I'm going to be killed because I want a little exercise.

I definitely agree with you about the "bikes may use full lane" signs. These should always be paired up with sharrows, and other new-to-Duval road markings, until there comes a time when everyone is educated about road markings and rules of the road from the start - i.e. drivers ed.

They are so beautiful I could cry... It is hard to believe, it's almost like a dream. It is really nicde to see Jacksonville with something other than Jaguar tracks on the pavement. Something that will actually help people.

Welcome to driving class kids, your word for today is Sharrows. Can anyone in the class tell me what a Sharrow is? Anyone?

Now they just need to post a sign under all stop signs that state, bicycles must stop too..

Where will the sharrows be put next? Park Street? Liberty Street? Laura Street? Edgewood Ave? San Marco Blvd?

IMHO they should put sharrows and signs on every road that has had a accident involving a bicycle.

I definitely agree that something should be done about cyclist running red lights. I like the idea of signs under red lights and stop signs. I cannot even tell you how many people I see on a daily basis that just roll right through intersections without obeying the law. Just remember though that no amount of signs is going to protect you 100% if they could then motor vehicles would always drive the speed limit or less. Well when I see cyclist run a red light I yell stop at them especially since I am sitting at the light on my bike as they ride right past me. Bicycles are vehicles and as such they must obey all the laws governing vehicles.
