Hard Core Commuter (at least by Florida standards)

I drove up on this hearty soul traveling along the Southside Service road this evening.

He gets my respect for braving the cold and wet conditions despite the fact that he is putting himself at a greater risk of being stuck by vehicles that may squeeze past him gutter riding. He should be controlling the very narrow 10 foot lane.

TIll this day, there are no bicycle awareness signs on this service road.

Definitely not the much required 'Bicycles May Take Full Lane' signs, not even a 'Share the Road' sign.

I've talked my co-worker into riding his Felt roadbike to work. Although his route takes him right down this way(Beach and Southside to the Batteries Plus in Mandarin in the Wal-Mart plaza), I told him it'd probably be safer to actually ride on the emergency lanes on Southside Blvd. Hell, I'm not sure if it's even legal, but at least there's only one major light to worry about versus that skinny ass sideroad where the majority of the drivers could give a rats ass about us bicyclists. People pull out those apartment complexes without yielding even to cars, so it's suicide for us to even be on that stretch.

Much props to that rider, because I believe that's the day it was supposed to be 50mph windgusts. I think I only rode in 30mph windgusts and torrential downpour on the way home that night. Thank God for bike lights, booties on my shoes, and a bright ass yellow built-in rain guard on my Camelbak so I don't get plowed from someone behind on my commute.
