Got a Fixer Upper?

A couple of weeks ago I stopped by the Bicycle Clinic to chat up Alex. As Jacksonville's only mobile bicycle repair shop you can imagine that he stays pretty busy and I was lucky to catch him at his shop.

As we talked he continued the repair and tuneups of customers bikes. After finishing a Ponte Vedra couples high-end mountain bikes. He went to the back of the shop and rolled out this sweet old cruiser and placed it in the stand. When I asked him about it, he told me that he had been doing a lot of complete restorations lately. And this one was a 1949 JC Higgins with great bones and style.

The owner of of the bike didn't want to trash it and since he would have to spend a few hundred on any decent bike. Why not just spend the cash on restoring this one and have a bike that is completely original and unique.

That Was Then.
As I watched Alex carefully strip the bike down piece by piece. I was already crafting this post to show you guys the before and after. Why? As those of you that know me, know I ride a couple of pretty old steeds. I'm all for supporting the local bike shops. But just because your bike is looking old doesn't mean it has outlived it's usefulness.

If your bike fits your needs and you love riding it. Why then should you have to feel like you need ditch it for something new? You don't. What if you find an old battered treasure in the trash or at a garage sale and what to fix it up and finally have that dream bike you've always wanted? You can.

Here is what that 1949 JC Higgins looked like before and after.

Alex works pretty much 7 days week. If you have a bike that could use some TLC or maybe you would like a whole new paint scheme up to a complete restoration or build up. Give Alex a call. If you're in Jacksonville, Alex will pick up and deliver free of charge.

If you are outside of Jacksonville Alex says he is offering free return shipping on restorations.

You can contact Alex at 904.422.1144

His website is The Bicycle Clinic.
