Biking the Big Easy

I’ve been neglecting this blog — sorry!

I was traveling. Last month, I went to New Orleans. I was curious about the biking scene there. Wouldn’t you know it, I just happened to be there during the Bike the Big Easy event! And that’s how I discovered Bike Easy, an organization that is advocating for bike safety and infrastructure in New Orleans.

I was really happy to discover Bike Easy. In general, Northern cities like Minneapolis and Portland are way ahead of cities in the South when it comes to bike infrastructure and advocacy. I’m glad to see New Orleans demonstrate such leadership in this part of the country.

If you’re going to be in New Orleans, be sure to check out Bike Easy and join in any events they may have going on. As cyclists and cyclist-activists, we can, when we travel, help fellow cyclists influence their communities. Improving bike infrastructure in one city will — I’m convinced of this — help it improve in others.

Even Jacksonville.

That’s all for now. Who dat?
